To What Extent does 2player work with DLNA devices?
2player is not certified as DLNA®-compatible software by the Digital Livingroom Network Alliance. However, it does work with most DLNA® devices. If it doesn't work with your device, we'd like to hear about it (firstname.lastname@example.org).
2player will "Play To" DLNA devices that allow remote control; and allows DLNA devices to "play from" media stored on your Android phone or tablet. 2player can also play media that is being shared on the network by DLNA devices.
You should be aware that many DLNA® renderer devices do not allow remote control: they can pull media from other devices on the network, but cannot be remotely controlled. Unfortunately the DLNA labeling standards do not provide an easy way for consumers to determine whether media renderers support remote control. Generally speaking, current generation DLNA® televisions do; BluRay players don't; dedicated media renders sometimes do, and sometimes do not. But you should check very carefully before buying to ensure that the device you intend to buy will support remote control.
Sony and Toshiba televisions that suport DLNA will allow "PlayTo" remote control. Samsung televisions that suport the AllShare+ also allow remote control. Most BluRay® players that act as media servers and renderers do not currently allow remote control. Dedicate media renders are inconsistent. The Western Digital WDTV devices do allow remote control (highly recommended, by the way). The Sony media renderers also allow remote control, but only allow MP3 files to be played. You should research other media renderers carefully.
If you are looking for a rendering device for your home network, what you want to look for is media renderers that support Digital Media Renderer (DMR) functionality. These devices can be remotely controlled. Unfortunately, technical spec sheets tend not to indicate reliably whether DLNA devices support remote control.
To What Extent does 2player work with UPnP media Devices
DLNA is based on UPnP and is -- for the most part -- backward compatible with UPnP Meida protocols. 2player works with most UPnP media devices.
Why Doesn't 2player Work with my XYZ Device?
2player does not support Apple network music devices (AirPlay®). But it works with most other network media devices.
There are a huge number of network media devices out there. And they collectively exhibit an extraordinary range of behaviors and mis-behaviors, in some cases. This is particularly true of the devices that conform to the older UPnP® standard.
We can't guarantee proper behaviour with all media servers, and renderers; and in some cases, it's virtually impossible to get minimally-conformant devices to do useful things. But in many cases, there are things that can be done to get your particular device to work.
We have a vested interest in making your device work with 2player, whatever it is, if we can. Please contact 2play support if you are having problems.

Why Doesn't 2player Work with my XBox or Windows Computer?
You must enable "Play To" and "Play From" functionality on both of these devices. They aren't enabled by default. Please see the Configuring Windows Computers or Configuring XBOX 360 for instructions on how to do this.
What Video and Audio Formats does 2player Support?
2player supports only the video and audio formats that are supported by the device on which you are playing.
The only exception to this is when playing from a media server that supports "transcoding". When playing from a media server that supports transcoding, 2player can ask the media server to decode the audio before sending it. The built-in Windows media server on Windows 7 and Windows 8 supports transcoding. 2player also supports transcoding when hosted on Android 4.1+. But otherwise, media servers that support transcoding are uncommon. For transcoding to work, the "Play To" device must also accept pre-decoded audio (audio/L16 format). 2player accepts transcoded audio, and most, but not all "Play To" devices accept transcoded audio.
The following table indicates which audio and video formats are supported by stock Android implementations. Some OEMs may add additional decoders. WMA, and WMV decoders are not stock decoders on Android 2.x devices, but are commonly included.

I Can Play a Track, but I Can't Download it. What's With That?
2player can play a track; but when you try to download it, you get a "Media Format Not Supported" error.
2player is able to play "transcoded" (pre-decoded) audio from media servers that support transcoding, when playing audio in a format that is otherwise not supported by the local Android device. However, you can't download transcoded audio tracks. They would be completely uncompressed, if you did, and that's probably not what you want.
You may also occasionally encounter this problem if the audio track contains corrupt metadata (album title, track title, track number, artwork, &c) that the core Android metadata decoders can't handle. If you get a "media format not supported" error when downloading or syncing a track that you think your Android device should support, you might want to try running a metadata repair utility on your audio files.
Does 2player Circumvent Copy Protection?
No. Under certain rare circumstances, 2player may be able to render copy-protected music from one device on another. But as a general rule, if a file is protected by DRM, it won't work with 2player.
Does 2player work with iTunes®?
No. But Windows does share the contents of your iTunes music collection, and you can play shared iTunes music using 2player.
And Windows 7 computers, and XBox 360 game consoles (with latest updates), and Windows 8 computers will play MP4/AAC files (the music format used by iTunes).
Older iTunes music may be DRM protected. 2player can't play these files. Also files encoded with Apple Lossless Compression can't be played.
Music that has been ripped from CDs by any version of ITunes should work fine, as long as it has not been encode with Apple Lossless Compression.
Does 2player support Windows XP?
Not out of the box. 2player does not support Windows Media Player 11; and Windows Media Player 12 cannot be isntalled on XP. However, non-Microsoft media servers, such as XBMC, or Twonky Media Server run perfectly well on Windows XP, and can be used with 2player.
Does 2player Support Windows Vista?
2player can use Windows Vista computers as a "Play From" device, but not as a "Play To" device.
Does 2player Transcode?
No. But many media servers do. If the music comes from a media server that does transcode, then you can play it on a device that doesn't support the original format in which the music was recorded, using 2player as a remote control.
2player will accept transcoded audio from any device that provides it.
2player does not currently transcode music stored on your Android phone. If the music comes from your phone, then the "Play To" device must support the compression format in which the file is stored.
Is Using 2player on a Coffee Shop Wi-Fi Network a Security Risk?
Yes. If the 2player Media Server is enabled, you will be sharing your music, movies and pictures with anyone else who is connected to the network. Be careful.
Does 2player Work on the Open Internet?

No. 2player deliberately avoids making use of wireless data connections. Internet.
Is 2player DLNA®-Certified?
No. 2player is not DLNA-certified.
